Ceremony Location
The ceremony will (hopefully) take place outside on the lawn. There is a boardwalk right at the edge of the lawn. There is a breathtaking view of the Chesapeake Bay-on a clear day you can look across and see Annapolis and look north and see the bridge. I don't know if we're going to use any decor at the alter, since the view is beautiful alone.
Aisle Decor
I want something simple like this. I am very against buying dried sea stars, so I am going to make some replicas out of polymer clay. I might add a few strands of purple ribbon with the raffia to incorporate our colors. (This photo was from a wedding at SSB!)
Readings
We are having a civil ceremony, and we're not doing any kind of extra ceremony (candles, etc.) We do want to have a couple readings that signify our relationship. The first is a definite, a typical wedding reading. The second is a maybe, it's a song with beautiful lyrics.
The Key to Love by Anon, 1st century China
The key to love is understanding ...
The ability to comprehend not only the spoken word,
but those unspoken gestures,
the little things that say so much by themselves.
The key to love is forgiveness ....
to accept each others faults and pardon mistakes,
without forgetting, but with remembering
what you learn from them.
The key to love is sharing ...
Facing your good fortunes as well as the bad, together;
both conquering problems, forever searching for ways
to intensify your happiness.
The key to love is giving ...
without thought of return,
but with the hope of just a simple smile,
and by giving in but never giving up.
The key to love is respect ...
realizing that you are two separate people, with different ideas;
that you don't belong to each other,
that you belong with each other, and share a mutual bond.
The key to love is inside us all ...
It takes time and patience to unlock all the ingredients
that will take you to its threshold;
it is the continual learning process that demands a lot of work ...
but the rewards are more than worth the effort ...
and that is the key to love.
"The Story" by Brandi Carlile
All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I've been
And how I got to where I am
But these stories don't mean anything
When you've got no one to tell them to
It's true
I was made for you
I climbed across the mountain tops
Swam all across the ocean blue
I crossed all the lines and I broke all the rules
But baby I broke them all for you
Because even when I was flat broke
You made me feel like a million bucks
You do
I was made for you
You see the smile that's on my mouth
It's hiding the words that don't come out
And all of my friends who think that I'm blessed
They don't know my head is a mess
No, they don't know who I really am
And they don't know what
I've been through like you do
And I was made for you
All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I've been
And how I got to where I am
But these stories don't mean anything
When you've got no one to tell them to
It's true
I was made for you
It's true
I was made for you
